Symptoms of Depression & P.T.S.D.
According to both the Mayo Clinic and WebMD community & experts the symptoms of depression are more &
mnore on the rise however NOTHING is a substitute for professional advice & a good reason for reporting
same.
However the Symptoms of depression & the types of depression are many with MAJOR depression even amongst
Older Adults also gaining in number & can include:
- Feeling sad & down with depression in teens on the rise too.
- Thoughts of suicide, esp. in teens
- Feelings of worthlessness
- Postpartum depression (To the Mother, after giving birth)
- Weight gain
- Weight loss
- Eating disorders
- Back pain
- Moodiness
- Bipolar depression
- Panic & anxiety
- even non-melancholic depression
The list is almost endless. Of course UNTREATED depression is THE most dangerous to both the individual &
society in general.
MOREOVER symptoms of depression & anxieties amongst those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD) are probably THE MOST difficult & expensive to manage in terms of their symptoms to gain
both relief & stability.
HOWEVER, as a fulltime Naturopath of 28 years experience we've been able to 'look-under-the-hood' as it were to
delve MUCH more into the true cause of Both PTSD & Depressions.
THE TRUE CAUSE OF BOTH P.T.S.D. and much of Depression is largely caused by -a LOSS OF
CONSCIOUNESS (LOC) in life; Even a split second of unconsciousness can begin later episodes of P.T.S.D
related Depression & Anxiety resulting from the 'Short-Circuiting' in the Hypothalamus of the Brain
during unconscious episodes.
Very often surrounding SHOCKING events one suffers such
as:
Concussions (A shock to the Brain)
Faints- eg:After Bad news OR witnessing shocking
events
Blackouts-eg:say in a car accident
Near Death Experiences -eg: In Blasts or
explosions
Surgical errors causing LOC, esp. whilst under
Anaesthesia
Anaphylaxis (Severe allergies causing
Unconsciousness)
Severe Asthma attacks causing unconsciousness
etc, etc.

In Naturopathic terms, a LOC triggers the Hypothalamus functioning, in the Brain, to temporarily
'Short-circuit'. BUT due to the complexity of the Brain, after it short-circuits, it then finds alternate pathways
to express its influence. So NORMAL-FUNCTIONING SEEMS to begin AFTER this episode HOWEVER later, when under severe
stress OR Fatigue then this effect will again re-express itself. However IF the severe stress is a SHOCK type of
event then greater irregularities of the Hypothalamus will present & with it, greater Mind-Body
irregularities too.
So, What’s sooo special about the Hypothalamus?
Doctors Essentially describe the Hypothalamus asTHE LINK between the Mind & the Body. That is -how the Nervous system/Mind interacts with your body
cells mostly via it’s hormonal effect such as Thyroid hormones, Adrenals (Stress hormones),
Gonads(Male/Female), Pituitary(Growth hormones), Pancreas(Blood sugar), etc.
Thru these effects the Hypothalamus, in the Brain, influences such things as Sleep, Respiration,
Pulse, Thirst, Hunger, Moods, Body temperature, fluid balance, bloodpressure, the Body clock (Circadian rhythms),
Gut motility, Circulation & even your Libido, etc.
In fact it's hard to nominate an area of the body which it doesnt either directly OR indirectly
influence!!!
A special complication to the unresolved ill-effects of Shock surrounding LOC
We propose that the IF one concurrently suffers a LOSS-OF-CONSCIOUSNESS
(LOC) whilst suffering Shock, the Hypothalamus will remain ‘poorly integrated’ or can be seen as having ‘Short Circuited’
with the mind AND thereafter needs to be reset in someway to help re-integrate it so
the body-mind complex can work more naturally in tandem than ‘Blown-a-fuse’ -so to speak- thus confusing the proper
signalling between the mind & the body.
Why’s this Important?
Two reasons:
a) The critical, POWERFUL and wide ranging effect the Hypothalamus has on almost ALL body
cells.
b) We have found that SO-POWERFUL is the MOTHER-CHILD connection that the ‘Shocked’ Foetus copes with the Maternal Trauma thru a temporary Loss-ofconsciousness
(A ‘Faint’ if-you-like). Remember, our Naturopathic research suggest that a Shock to the pregnant mother WILL
indeed effect the foetus at least 3-4 fold what the mother feels during the SHOCK event.
Unfortunately the ‘Faint’ induces a ‘Blown-fuse’ type effect in the Hypothalamus of the sufferer
& will for the indefinite future render a poorly functioning Mind-Body connection with CONFUSED
signalling between the Mind-Body & back to the Body-Mind connections.
What Proof do we have of this LOC during Birth or pre-Birth
possibility?
Two things point to this:
1) Our Naturopathic Kinesiology techniques as of Apr.2010.
2) The recent News item featured below.
